Show me someone who isn’t a slave! One is a slave to lust, another to greed, another to power, and all are slaves to fear. I could name a former Consul who is slave to a little old woman, a millionaire who is the slave of the cleaning woman… No servitude is more abject than the self-imposed.– Seneca, Moral Letters, 47.17
As an innovator, it’s good to realize that we are all addicts in one way or another. We’re addicted to our routines, our job, our comfort or someone else’s approval. These dependencies mean we’re not in control of our own lives – the dependency is in control.
If you want to be a free innovator, you won’t desire something that is not in your control. You have to be able to disrupt your routines. How can you ever deal with disruption & innovation in your company, if you even can not disrupt your own habits?
Can you stop drinking coffee in the morning? Can you stop looking at your phone for a day? Did you ever lose your job & survived? Did you ever take a cold shower?
Make yourself invulnerable to your routines and convenience. Become independent! Get out of your comfort zone. Take a cold shower 😉
